The genetics of squareheadedness and of density in wheat, and the relation of these to other characters. By. Boshnakian, Sarkis, 1891- Type. Book Material. Published material. Publication info. Ithaca,1922 Subjects. Three sets of substitution lines of the spring wheat variety Chinese with chromosomes from the donor varieties Thatcher, Hope and Timstein were used to study the genetics of awning, earliness, lodging, plant height, spike density, 1000-kernel weight and yield. Of the three most important cereals in the world corn, rice and wheat, wheat was the last to be transformed by transgenic, biolistic methods in 1992, and by Agrobacterium methods in 1997. Unlike corn and rice, its widespread use in the human diet has faced cultural resistance.
In order to meet these challenges, genetic improvement based on exploitation of genetic resources is required. Nevertheless, investigation of the wheat genome has faced difficulties due to the large genome size of bread wheat ∼17,000 Mb and the high proportion ∼80% of repetitive sequences , . Therefore, in this study conducted on genetic gain in grain yield and yield related characters of 49 bread wheat varieties developed by the wheat Research program from 1967 to 2016.
Genetic studies of plant height were made of 8 wheats and the 28 crosses between them using the diallel method of analysis. The inheritance of plant height in a glasshouse-grown F1 diallel set in which vernalization and photoperiodic responses had been removed, indicated close to complete dominance in its expression. A similar F1 set of crosses in the field environment indicated non-allelic. Q gene is the major domestication gene of wheat and many questions concerning Q gene genetics, including Q gene variability and its functional influence on phenotype, remain unanswered for the majority of wheat species. Here we crossed wheat species with dominant Q and recessive q alleles and confirmed that Q gene controls threshability, rachis fragility and spike shape traits. As the staple food for 35% of the world's population, wheat is one of the most important crop species. To date, sequence-based tools to accelerate wheat improvement are lacking. As part of the international effort to sequence the 17–billion–base-pair hexaploid bread wheat genome 2 n = 6 x = 42 chromosomes, we constructed a bacterial artificial chromosome BAC–based integrated physical.
PRACTICE PROBLEMS IN POPULATION GENETICS 1. In a study of the Hopi, a Native American tribe of central Arizona, Woolf and Dukepoo 1959 found 26 albino individuals in a total population of 6000. This form of albinism is controlled by a single gene with two alleles: albinism is. The human face is an array of variable physical features that together make each of us unique and distinguishable. Striking familial facial similarities underscore a genetic component, but little is known of the genes that underlie facial shape differences. Numerous studies have estimated facial shape heritability using various methods. Here, we used advanced three-dimensional imaging.
These genetic resources are the gene pool available for breeders and other scientists, and in the Triticeae tribe several pools are recognized Von Botmer et al., 1992 Table 5.1. The primary gene pool consists of the biological species, including cultivated, wild and weedy forms of a crop species.
