Until the mid-nineteenth century, the Society fulfilled the role of a national academy of science, national library and museum, and even patent office. Beginning with the 2013-2014 membership year, the Proceedings and Addresses transitioned to a single annual print volume rather than five issues per year, as had previously been the case. The annual volume includes the annual presidential addresses and prize lectures, as well as the memorial minutes and awards.
